Some dinners are meant to be enjoyed once. Others are designed to carry you through the week—and those are my favorite kind.
When planning this meal, I intentionally chose meatballs over a traditional meatloaf. While meatloaf is classic and comforting, meatballs hold their shape better in the fridge, reheat more evenly, and—most importantly—can be paired with a variety of ingredients to create entirely different meals throughout the week. One protein, endless possibilities.
This is exactly the kind of Hosting Haus dinner I love: comforting enough for a cozy night in, yet practical enough to support a week of thoughtful, stress-free meals.

Why Meatballs Are a Hosting Haus Staple
Meatballs are one of the most versatile proteins you can prep ahead of time. By skipping the loaf and shaping individual portions instead, you gain flexibility without sacrificing flavor.
Here’s why they win every time:
- They store and reheat beautifully
- They maintain their texture better than sliced meatloaf
- They pair effortlessly with pasta, grains, roasted vegetables, or salads
- They can be seasoned once and styled multiple ways
This approach allows you to cook intentionally once, then remix your meals all week long without ever feeling like you’re eating leftovers.
Italian-Style Meatballs (Dinner + Meal Prep)
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground chicken
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 shallot or small onion, finely diced
- 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1–1½ teaspoons garlic powder
- 1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (or rolled oats)
- 1 large egg
- Freshly grated parmesan (optional but encouraged)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken and ground pork. Add the shallot, garlic, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, breadcrumbs, egg, and parmesan if using.
- Mix gently until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep the meatballs tender.
- Roll into evenly sized meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until cooked through and lightly golden.
- Serve immediately, or allow to cool completely before storing for the week.
How We Served Them (and How You Can Too)
For Dinner Tonight
- Tossed in homemade marinara
- Served with pasta or roasted vegetables
- Finished with fresh herbs or parmesan
For the Week Ahead
These meatballs are intentionally neutral and pair beautifully with:
- Roasted sweet potatoes and vegetables for simple bowls
- Quinoa or brown rice with greens
- Pasta with marinara or olive oil and herbs
- Stuffed into wraps or served alongside salads
By keeping the protein consistent and changing the supporting ingredients, you create variety without extra cooking.
